Trauma

For many of us, living in the “information age” can be physically, emotionally, and spiritually exacting. The feeling of being constantly bombarded with images of natural disasters (hurricanes, fires, floods, etc.), the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, school shootings, potential terrorists, “highlights” from September 11, 2001, to name just a few, on our TV screens, on the front pages of our newspapers, and on the Internet can be overwhelming.

If you find yourself having a difficult time sleeping, eating too much or too little, drinking to get drunk, arguing with your friends, family and/or colleagues, “road rage”, you may be experiencing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. Conventional wisdom is that you need to have experienced a trauma first hand to suffer with these symptoms…not true! The symptoms you may be experiencing are your body’s natural defense mechanisms designed to shield you from the pain. But there is help.

If you feel like you are having a difficult time coping with a trauma that you yourself experienced, have a loved one who has suffered a traumatic event(s), or are just overwhelmed with the images you see and hear, contact me for a FREE phone consultation. If we decide that we would like to work together, we will set up a time to meet and to set an appropriate fee.

For many people traditional “talk therapy” has not been the solution. If you have already tried talk therapy, there are other techniques that may help, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is designed to specifically target a memory and help the brain and body process the traumatic memory. Often times this helps alleviate many of the negative beliefs you may have as well as take away some, if not all, of the emotional pain.
